Great Resource for Tobacco Prevention/Cessation Materials
If you haven't heard about the Tobacco Education Clearinghouse of California, I encourage you to check out their website http://www.tobaccofreecatalog.org/. They have the coolest, most up-to-date materials available for tobacco prevention!
Request for Proposal Released on January 15th
Please help get the word out about our latest funding opportunity!
We have released a new RFP for one-year grants. As part of our community programs effort, our RFP will offer community organizations and schools a 12-month grant opportunity to implement one or more of the tobacco use prevention and/or cessation programs listed on our compendium of evidence-based programs. Proposals will be due March 19, 2008. All organizations wishing to apply for grant funds must attend a mandatory Proposal Development Training (details in RFP). Grant programs will begin July 1, 2008 and end June 30, 2009.
This year alone, VTSF awarded more than $3.6 million in funding to 75 organizations throughout the Commonwealth including non-profit organizations, faith-based groups, schools, and other community groups that reach children of all ages. For more information about the VTSF, our compendium, and to learn about our efforts to reduce and prevent tobacco use among youth, please visit our website at www.vtsf.org.

Gov. Kaine Announces Restaurant Smoking Ban Legislation
“The scientific evidence on the health risks associated with exposure to secondhand smoke is clear and convincing,” said Governor Kaine. “Recognizing the negative health effects and high public costs of secondhand smoke, Virginia must act to protect the workers and consumers in its restaurants.”

Happy New Year
Happy New Year! I hope everyone got a chance to rest and spend time with friends and family!
January is gearing up to be busy for VTSF.
- I am starting site visits (if you have not heard from me to set a date, you will soon) this month. You can review the Site Visit Report form on our web site http://www.vtsf.org/grantees/forms.asp Site Visits last about 1-1 1/2 hours and are the best way for your to showcase your program to VTSF.
- 2nd Quarterly Reports are due to me via email by January 15th. This will cover the program activities from September, November and December. I look forward to reading these. Remember we are six months into the grant year, so we expect to see a good number of youth reached with your programs.
- VTSF is releasing a program RFP in mid-January for one-year grants (utilizing a program from our Compendium). Current 3-year grantees may not apply, but one-year grantees are encouraged to do so. I will also need all your help to spread the word regarding the program RFP. We need to fund more programs in the North Region! If you know of an organization who may wish to apply for our funds, please send me their contact information. I will make sure to get them a copy of the RFP and meet with them, if necessary, for technical assistance.
